Roller door appearance

When we select a 2100mm high roller door (or smaller), we get a 1/2 lead in sheet that is shale grey. Looks terrible & customers are not happy (see attached). In speaking with Steel line, if the min size we order is 2200mm (H) then they will apply a full sheet same colour as the roller door. I think this would be a better option as the norm? Again if we are about quality , should this not be the expectation? Needs to be automated from SMS & Steelx.

We raised this with Centurion Garage Doors and have provided the below explanation:
"On doors at 2100 high, we use generic colour ½ sheet to ensure the drum wheel is covered.
We only carry a generic colour of the ½ sheet as its not visible from the outside of the door. (otherwise, we would have to carry and extra coil of every colour cut to ½ size)
This has been our standard practice for all our manufacturing time and ensures the cost of the 2100 high door remain competitive.
Some other manufacturers do not use an extra ½ sheet and just leave part of the drum sheet exposed on 2100 high doors, thus leaving the springs exposed to dust collection. We have always ensured the drum is enclosed.
Once the door goes over that height, to 2200, it then needs a full sheet, so it can be done with the same colour sheeting as the rest of the door.
If your customer would not like to see the ½ sheet at the top, then ordering a door at 2200 will solve this issue as it will increase the door size to require a full sheet".

maybe Steelx needs to insist as a company of their size, they should not be using scrap metal & doing the right thing by their customers. We talk about being better than our competitors - this is clearly an example where we are not! Or Steelx spec up to the next size door & that's what we provide to remove the issue.

The 1/2 lead in sheet on centurion doors is a scrap sheet that is used to enclose the drum. Most other door manufacturers don't put anything there and have the drum open.
This is not something that centurion will change as they are only using scrap material and cannot always match colours.

Not sure why this has been marked as complete?

This is not an option any more with Steel-line not being a supplier.

Ashley Gale does this mean the half lead in sheet doesn't happen anymore?

Ashley Gale we use centurian doors?

I would also believe and correct me if I am wrong that you are not supposed to install a motor on a door unless it has a full roll cover.

this is not visible from the outside?

Greg Lennon it looks cheap and nasty, easy solution is let us have the option

SnH Geelong: I'll look into it. I know previously the drum was left uncovered i.e. no half sheet.

Greg Lennon this is obviously a cost thing. Why can’t they use a half sheet of the same colour? That would quickly resolve this.
